Foundations.
This is a last look at the old Shanghai.
These streets were here before any of
the overbearing skyscrapers, when the
sky was dark at night and consumerism
was a dirty word. They have witnessed
the surrounding city re-invent itself into
the wealthy, cosmopolitan capital of
Shanghai's economy. Now they stand
defiant; a testament to the past, but a
hinderance of progress. Encircled by
modernity, they await iminant destruction,
to become the foundations
of a young megacity.
